Nashville Dog Training Club is an affiliate of the American Kennel Club (AKC). It welcomes dogs of all breeds as well as mixed breeds. All board members, instructors, and support personnel are volunteers whose goal is to help you train your dog to be a rewarding member of your family.
Founded in 1960 and staffed by experienced volunteers, Nashville Dog Training Club is the only AKC-licensed agility, obedience, rally, tracking, scent work, and lure coursing club in the metropolitan Nashville area.
How do I register?
If our registration is currently closed, they will reopen approximately one week after the current session. Sessions run for six weeks. You can view this session’s classes on our schedule page.
You must be signed up on the website to register.
Do I have to be a member of the club to take a class?
No! We welcome all people and dogs to our classes. Joining the community is an entirely optional, but rewarding, opportunity.
Does signing up on the website make me a member?
No, signing up on the website just creates an account which allows you to register for classes. Joining the membership is a separate process.
Is my dog welcome in a class?
We do not restrict classes based on breed or size. If your dog is overly aggressive and disruptive our teacher may ask you to leave class and then work with you individually on a plan to address that issue.
What is the class format?
Our classes are generally between 4-10 students learning together under the supervision of 1-3 instructors to ensure everyone can get the individual attention they need. Classes meet for 6 weeks, 1 day per week and typically fill very quickly.
How much does a class cost?
Most of our courses are 6 weeks long and cost $140. This helps us cover the cost of our building and utilities. All of our teachers are volunteer members of the club who have proven themselves to be excellent dog and handler trainers. Some of our classes are offered as drop-ins and these are $10 to attend a single class.
Are there are any requirements to take a class?
All NDTC classes require proof of current rabies vaccination for dogs age six months or older.
What happens if I miss a class?
If you miss a class we ask you to let your instructor know a week before if possible, or show up early the next week so your instructor can let you know what was covered.
What about dangerous weather conditions and/or classes are cancelled?
In the event of dangerous or threatening weather conditions, please check our site banner page before leaving for class. A decision about class will be posted ASAP during each class day.
Please be sure to obtain your instructor’s phone and email in case you need to reach them for weather or other class issues.
Please check the NDTC Site Banner for class updates prior to contacting your instructor.
If you cannot reach your instructor try the training director or registrar as a last resort. Most of our instructors and director are volunteers and work full time jobs. Therefore it may not be possible to return messages immediately. If classes are canceled, we will make every effort to reschedule a missed class.
