We love Dr. Dixon and Dr. Fields. Dr. Dixon works with exotic animals including birds and reptiles. I once watched Dr. Dixon do a happy dance across the waiting room because someone’s reptilian pet was getting better.

Our first golden retriever, Glory, was vet-phobic after an unnecessarily painful and rough experience elsewhere. Getting her through the door of the vet clinic was an aerobic workout. (Once when I got her in there, the receptionists starting singing ‘Glory Halleluiah’ to her, Yep, they knew us). When age and a tumor brought her to the end, I could not bear to drag her into the office for that last visit. So the staff came to our home and gently euthanized her in her favorite spot on our back porch. So grateful. We got a sympathy card several weeks before we got the (reasonable) bill.

Then golden number two, Chloe, developed mast cell cancer. Friends from the rescue group told us about a vet in CA who was treating cancer with immune system support, but by prescription through a local vet. Dr. Dixon and Dr. Fields were supportive of our desire to try something unconventional, worked with us to coordinate the treatment, and Chloe was cancer free for the next four years. She loved Dr. Dixon. In the exam room she would head-butt his hand to make him keep petting her; several times he kissed the top of her head. Dr. Fields was on duty when Chloe’s life ended, and she could not have been more gentle with Chloe and supportive of us. We think of Dr. Fields as the earth mother of veterinarians.

Then we adopted Rosie, a golden rescued from a terribly abusive situation who was, at first, scared of everything and everyone. Both doctor’s were always slow, kind, gentle and careful with her, and earned her trust. They were consistently supportive as we worked through her issues, including a nasty bout with mastitis and a foot stress fracture. The foot fracture took up most of Dr. Dixon’s Saturday morning clinic time, but he still took his time with us and we left with emergency phone numbers, pain meds and a splinted leg. This week Rosie stopped breathing in Dr. Dixon’s exam room, and the emotional support he and his staff gave me was exactly what I needed, respectful, kind, and above the call of duty.

I strongly recommend this veterinary clinic. Both doctors are clearly intelligent and current in their fields. They have always gotten on the floor with our goldens, related to them well and been affectionate with them. They have also been respectful of our attachment to our pets, and have given us the information to make informed choices. We love them both, and our next pet will definitely be their patient.
