Every day of Heidi’s life has included caring for and sharing her home with a myriad of animals: dogs, cats, birds, fish, guinea pigs, gerbils, and mice – to name a few. Some were pets, others were wildlife rescued and released, but the love for each was immeasurable.
After a 15+ year career in retail management, Heidi decided to pursue her passion for animal care and began working with them full time. Heidi became a professional goomer, certified dog trainer and ran an in-home dog boarding business for over 25 years. All of these experiences provided an up close, hands-on education in dog behavior and social rituals.

Heidi LaCosse
Owner & Enrichment Specialist
Heidi’s heart for animals also led her to extensive volunteer work with the Wisconsin Humane Society and Milwaukee-based therapy dog organization, Pets Helping People, of which Heidi has served as the Training Director for the past 14 years. She is also an active member of the Force Free Trainers of Wisconsin.
Through her work, Heidi felt the dog-care industry was missing something. She wanted to help find the WOW in every dog, in partnership with their favorite humans, in a more pressure and performance free environment. From that – the Canine Enrichment Center was born.
Heidi has crafted all Canine Enrichment Center classes, training and fun with a focus on the natural behaviors dogs love best: playing, smelling, searching, and exploring.
Outside of Canine Enrichment Center Heidi enjoys spending time with her family (husband, 3 children, 3 dogs and 4 cats), doing yoga, exploring the outdoors or curling up to read a great fantasy fiction novel.
